30 Minute Chicken Shawarma

30 Minute Chicken Shawarma


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma, cut into 1” pieces

  • 1.5 tablespoons oil

  • 1 cup white onion, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup cilantro, finely chopped

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oil in a deep, nonstick pan over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add in onions and cook for 5 mins.

  2. Turn heat down to medium. Add in chicken, cumin, salt, crushed red pepper flakes and black pepper and mix. Cook for 15 minutes, mixing occasionally.

  3. Add in cilantro and cook for another 5 minutes and turn off the heat. If there is too much liquid in the pan, continue to cook for another 5 minutes and turn off the heat. The liquid will thicken as it sits.

  4. Serve over rice or in pitas with your favorite toppings.

*Notes:

  • The chicken shawarma is found in the refrigerated section at Trader Joe’s.

  • You can omit the crushed red pepper flakes if you don’t like spice or you can add more if you like it spicier.

  • You can enjoy this chicken over rice, on pita, over a salad - the possibilities are endless.

  • Topping ideas: crispy pita chips, tzatziki sauce, diced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, pickled jalapenos, Kalamata olives, feta cheese.
